Every season we hand pick our staff like pure fresh ingredients in a Jamie Oliver recipe!
Team Woody's 07/08...
If you are thinking of applying for a job with us at Woody's, please read some of the following quotes and accounts from our staff past & present!
Naomis Story (season 08/09): I had already done two seasons in the Alps when i applied for a job in Woody's. I thought I knew what to expect, but this season turned out to be much different. Vicki and Brent made us feel so welcome and helped us settle in straight away. After a few weeks we all bonded really well and it was such fun working with all the team. I did a lot of things that I had never done before such as cross country skiing and the olympic bobsleigh track, as well as improving on my skiing and snowboarding. The mountain is great for people of all abilities, and you meet people that will help and give you pointers. We got the chance to ski/board in different resorts, and a few of us stayed in Oslo with people we had met through Woody's. All in all this has been my best season and that is why I'm returning in 09/10.
Marks Story: (season 07/08) I came out to Norway, working PT in Woody's as a glass collector. This was great as I got the most time on the slopes out of everyone in resort. After about a month I got the opportunity to work full time in the bar which was great. As well as earning good money you get to work lots of different shifts so it mixes it up a bit. I had loads of time to do night skiing, morning skiing etc. I made loads of friends locals, guests and other resort staff. Thursdays at Woody's is theme night, which is always a really good excuse to get dressed up and have one of the best partys in resort. There is always an after party to go to! The skiing itself is brilliant no matter what level of skier you are, there is always someone to ski with to have fun and improve. I am coming back for season 08/09 to work on becoming a ski instructor and keep working at Woody's of course! I wouldn't be able to have done that without all the help I got in resort for my skiing. Plus on top of your wages there are really good tips, which helps along the way to getting drunk and having a good time! I would recommend Norway to anyone thinking of doing a season because there is guaranteed snow and I've had the best 5 months of my life x
Natalies Story: (season 07/08) I really can't put into words how much i loved my season! Vicki and Brent are honestly the best people i've worked for and we got so well looked after start to finish, i feel soooo lucky to have been able to work for them. our accomodation aka "the big brother house" was so much fun to live in, its HUGE , so we always had our scandinavian friends over! When i first arrived i had only done the tiniest bit of boarding, but because i had so much time on the mountain i improved loads and was loving the park, super G and all the off piste. Had so many good memories up the mountain.... it was sooo good when i could go down a whole run and not see anyone else! and nothing beats going off piste when theres been a dump of snow which no one else has touched. Being part of woodys kinda makes you famous in Hafjell, the lifties and other staff around always say hi, and theres often people shouting "woodys"" when they see the yellow jackets! We had a huge bunch of close friends including the ski instructors, locals, and other resort staff, and often had them round our place. Theme nights were the best, we had everything ranging from bin bag ball to superhero night- Dougie often liked to see how little clothing he could wear! TABLE DANCING ROCKS! we had lots of drunken times dancing on tables and generally causing mayhem! Without a doubt i made the best friends ive ever had , we was like one big family ! oh what a perfect season :)
Dougies Story:(season 07/08) Like to hit the slopes? Like to party? Prepared to work hard? If you can answer YES to all three then Woodys Bar, Norway, is the place for you this winter! Having recently left the Army i was looking for something more than your 9 to 5 daily grind. I applied for the door persons job at Woodys Bar through natives and couldn't wait to fly out for the start of the season when Brent and Vicki told me i had been successful. Being on the door meant that i worked mostly nights and most weekends but i was more than happy to do this as its all about the time on the slopes for me. I could hit the slopes pretty much 5 days a week every week and always managed to get thurs nights off to party (thurs theme nights turned out to be the highlight of the week for a lot of resort staff). I enjoyed myself so much that i would definately do another season at Woodys!
Beths Story: (season 05/06) so much to say!!! recruitment day was a lot of fun..a hint of what was to come, not as nerve wrecking as thought it would be! As for the season- totally amazing would be an understatement! what more could you want than having a fun job that you get to meet lots of people, get to go skiing - with shifts a mixture of earlies and lates, earlies allow you to get a run or 2 in on first chair lift, lates you get all day!, and night skiing during the week, and one full day off- and there's not just the downhill - which has runs for every level, but the off piste, cross country, trying boarding, the terrain park - theres loads to keep you busy, and always someone who'll want to come out with you and show you how the norwegians do it! the bar is the centre of hafjell - with everyone knowing where the party starts! and team woodys the people to get it started with singing karaoke, teaching everyone the YMCA, dressing up and having so much fun it hurts! You will make some lifelong friends working for woodys - not only the staff but the locals are great too - you'll never want to leave!

Beccas Story: (Seasons 05/06 & 06/07) I first went to Woody’s in February 2005 whilst on holiday and had such a good time I decided to apply for a job!
The recruitment day in Worcester actually turned out to be good fun, although I was a bit nervous beforehand! We had to introduce ourselves and do some group activities as well as having individual chats with Vicki and Brent.
A few days later Vicki phoned to say I’d got the job and I have now just finished my second winter season at Woody’s; the second season as a supervisor.
Norway is just great. I love it. The people are really welcoming and you get to make friends very quickly. It is certainly not as expensive as most people think. Being Woody’s staff, we got discounts in all the bars and restaurants on the mountain and in the village. I actually saved £1000 plus my bonus in my first season, and this winter over £1500 plus bonus, without even trying! All thanks to tips which we got weekly!! Oh, and being a bit of a lightweight!
The quality of the snow is excellent and I love that there is a lot of tree-lined skiing. There’s also some brilliant wooded trails to ski through which can be absolutely hilarious! We got to try lots of different winter sports including the Olympic bobsleigh, SMX snow bikes, Telemark skis and lots more!
We got loads of time on the slopes as you normally only work three day shifts a week and there is also night skiing with floodlights three evenings a week!As for working for Woody’s and Norwegian Wood Travel, you couldn’t ask for better bosses! Vicki and Brent are fantastic and looked after us brilliantly! A large part of the reason I went back for a second season!
Lynnes Story: (seasons 05/06, 06/07 & summer '07) I worked for Woody’s Bar for two seasons. It’s so good that I’ve returned again and again. I had planned to work in America for my first season. Then I saw the job advertised for Woody’s Bar. It sounded so good I had to apply. It was most definitely the right decision.
I love working for Woody’s Bar. It’s a job that I look forward to going to everyday, with always a funny story to tell at the end of a shift. If you love meeting new people, this is the job for you.
The shifts we do give you so much spare time for skiing.
My skiing has improved amazingly. It went from Beth and I managing to fall into each other STANDING UP right by Sammy "The Tigers" feet! Now I am able to ski down any slope without fear and keep up speed with my Norwegian friends. I have also been to 6 other ski resorts in Norway , which was great fun
With all the free time given at Woody’s Bar, I have also tried Boarding, Cross-Country, Off-piste, Telemark, Formation Skiing, SMX Biking, Bobsleigh and even Curling.
Being famous for our yellow jackets, you will never find yourself alone in the slopes for too long. The lifties always wave to you, Ski School always shout hello and if you fancy a ski partner there is always someone to join up with.
Woody’s Bar really is where the party is at. Even if you are working, you don’t mind as you won’t miss out on anything. When sober you really do found out all the gossip!
Even looking at ski schools’ pictures of their season, they are all taken in Woody’s Bar.
My best memory…. Dancing on the tables outside dressed as a Tiger to lots of crazy cheesy tunes! Even Superman, remember that one from primary school! Lynne xx
Beckys Story: (seasons 06/07 & 07/08) This review was written after Beckys first season, she returned the full-time... and jetted off for a summer season last week... we await her review of this year! ............................................................................... Hey there, My name is Becky Elliott and I have just finished my first winter season at Woody`s Bar, Norway. Iv only got one word to describe my time there, AMAZING!!! I have thoroughly enjoyed it, I have met many amazing people from all over the world and many locals. I found everyone very friendly and welcoming. At Woody`s I was a Glass collector (by far the best job) this is empty slopes)and saw all the gossip first hand and sober at the weekend, plus thereis always a party to go to after work. (even if it means dancing to the YMCAon a Saturday morning dressed as Scooby doo with a hangover.)Even if you haven’t had much or any ski or boarding experience I would definitely advise you to think about doing a winter season in Hafjell becausethe slopes are so empty, the snow is amazing and you don’t have to queue for a chair lift. At the beginning of the season I went from not even being ableto put on a pair of skis, to skiing down the super G and having a go at some jumps in the park. Iv even tried snowboarding, telemark and cross country.
Sam (left) worked for us in our very first season 04/05, he returned for a second season in 05/06. He headed off for travels including places such as Australia & Canada. He completed his first season as a ski instructor in Deer Valley, USA last season 07/08. He still has a place in his heart for Woody's & Hafjell, and visits us every season. -------------Richard (right) Richard left university and came to work for us in our first season 04/05. After his season he moved to London to be with his long term girlfriend. However he comes out to see us every season, helping out on busy weeks such as Febuary halfterm and Easter. Its always great to see him.
